He is a Brazilian musician and he is better recognized for his deep love for jazz music.He was born on 11th February 1941. He has more than 55 releases. He was nominated for an award in 2012 for the ‘best original song’ category for the blockbuster hit animated movie ‘RIO’. He is one of the most globally successful Brazilian musical artists of all the time. Mendes has recorded many music albums, many of which goes platinum or gold. One more fact about his life is that he won Grammy Award thrice.
Sergio Mendes and Brasil ‘66
Mendes is better known for his craze of jazz music. Brasil ’66 was the massive hit musical venture. The whole idea came across when Adler called his best friend Jerry and founders of A&M Records. Later, he asked them toarrange an audition for Mendes and his new group, which was responsible for the success of “Brasil ’66. Moss and Alpertsigned Sergio Mendes and his musical group. After a few discussions, Ahmet decided to let him record different albums in the name of “Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66 with A&M records.
The very first music album on A&M records was Herb Alpert Presents Mendes and Brasil ’66. It was a platinum hit music album for all jazz lovers. The complete line-up of the Brasil ’66 was Bibi Vogal and Lani Hall (vocalists), Joao Palma (Drums player), Bob Matthews (Bass), Jose Soares (Percussion), John Pisano (Guitarist) and the main leading brain Sergio Mendes played the piano. The group got so many successes together. After sometimes, the lineup faced some change due to different reasons.
Most drastically, in the early 70s, the lead singer Lani Hall practiced and choose her career as a solo artist and became Alpert’s 2nd wife. Some accounts state that Sergio Mendes was not happy with Alpert for many years for “thieving” Lani Hall away from his successful music group.
With Brasil ’66, Mendes met with few successes, including ‘Mas Que Nada’. He has really come apart into conventional fame when he presented his musical venture and the Oscar-nominated ‘The Look of Love’at an award show. The show was telecasted in the year of 1968.Brasil ’66’s edition of the songs hastily blasts into the list of top 10 andreached at number four.
Brasil ’66 and Sergio Mendes complements each other. Mendes is the only responsible person who brings such madness and passion for the jazz music. If, today we appreciate jazz music that much, Mendes has an important role in it.
